Japanese Bobtail Longhair - JBL

General  

Japanese Bobtail is a medium-boned short-tailed cat originating in Japan and having a special Japanese cast provided by its face, eyes and ears.

Head:

Shape  

Top of head 

The head is not longer than it is broad. Viewed from the front it has the shape of an equilateral triangle (the triangle does not include the ears) with fine lines and gentle contours. Top of head is flat.

Muzzle and chin 

The cheek bones are high; the small, slightly rounded muzzle has a distinct whisker break.  

Profile  

The profile is slightly curved at or slightly below eye level. The nose is long, of even width and well-defined by two parallel lines from tip to brow. Chin and lower jaws are firm. 

Eyes 

The eyes are large, oval and set with rather pronounced slant.
All eye colours are permitted. The eye colour shall be even; a harmonious combination with the coat colour is desired.

Ears 

Large, upright, set wide, but at right angles to the head, rather than flaring.

Size and boning 

The body is medium sized, slender and elegant, yet muscular and not dainty.

Torso 

Long, slender, not tubular, the back is level without any raise due to deep angulation of hind legs. 

Neck

Legs and paws 

The forelegs are straight set, long and slender, the hind legs are clearly longer  but deeply angulated; the paws are oval.  

Tail 

The tail shall be kinked and/or curved and shall be optically shorter than 8 cm. The fur on the tail is longer than on the rest of the body (pom-pom effect).

Length 

Medium long to long.   

Texture  

Silky, soft but without noticeable undercoat. May have a ruff. The coat will lie fairly flat and flow into "pantaloons" on the hind legs. 

Colour 

All colours and patterns are recognized. Any amount of white is permitted.

Colour varieties

The colours chocolate and cinnamon, as well as their dilution (lilac and fawn) are not recognized in any combinations (bicolour, tricolour, tabby). The pointed pattern is also not recognized.
All other colours and patterns are recognized. Any amount of white is permitted.
