Korat - KOR
This is a preliminary standard.
Final version is to be approved by the Standard Commission, and will soon be published.
The Korat not only looks like the ancient blue Si-Sawat cat from Siam, but in fact all Korats can trace their ancestry back to Thailand.
Top of head
When viewed from the front, the head is heart-shaped. The eyebrow ridges form the upper curves of the heart-shape, the soft contours of the face gently curve to the chin, completing the heart-shape. The forehead is broad, large and flat.
Muzzle and chin
Muzzle neither sharply pointed nor square, giving a moderately pointed look to the face. Chin is strong. Jaw pinch is undesirable.
Nose is short and with slight downward curve. In profile there is a slight stop between forehead and nose.
Rounded, widely opened eyes, which appear almost oversized to the face. Set very wide. They are brilliant and expressive. A luminous green is preferred, amber is tolerated.
The ears are large, broad and cupped at the base and slightly rounded, set high and flared to follow the contours of the upper head. The inside of the ears is sparsely furnished, the outside is furnished with short and dense hairs.
Size and boning
Medium sized body, strong, muscular and semi-cobby. Medium bone structure.
The back is carried in a gentle curve which starts behind the shoulder blades. The chest is broad and rounded, there is a gentle rise to the belly, giving the cat a "waist".
Legs and paws
The legs are sturdy and muscular, the paws are oval.
The tail is of medium length, strong at the base and tapers slightly to a rounded tip.
Short to medium short.
The single coat is lustrous and fine. It lies close to the body. The coat has a tendency to part along the back, when the cat moves.
Uniform silver-blue, lustrous. On the entire body there is a clearly visible silver tipping. Where the coat is shorter, the silver sheen is intensified.
Special breed faults
Close set and/or small eyes
White hairs or white patches
Any other colour than blue.
Cross-breeding with other breeds is prohibited.
